Kinds of Human Needs, What are they? – As we discussed earlier that wholeness (need) man is not infinite. That which is unlimited is desire (want) humans driven by lust.

Then further, why the discussion of economics mostly does not discuss needs (need) instead of request alias demand ? the answer is because what is real or empirical as an economic action is demand (demand).

What is a request (demand) ? Demand is a desire accompanied by purchasing power. While the desire is motivated by the need. So it’s clear, what is the relationship between needs, wants, and requests?

Kinds of Human Needs

This time we will discuss about the various needs. Why not discuss the request? Isn’t that the most studied in economics? Of course, we will discuss some of them, we have already discussed some of them in previous articles.

Ok, we are back on the topic of this article. Basically, the types of necessities of life can be grouped as follows.

a. Needs by Intensity of Use

Grouping the necessities of life according to the level of use (intensity) can be divided into primary needs, secondary needs, and tertiary needs.

Primary needs

Did you know that the primary word comes from the word primus, which means first. These primary needs are also called natural needs because these needs are closely related to our nature as humans. Primary needs are basic needs that must be met by humans in order to live properly. Primary needs are also known as basic needs.

According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), primary needs are the minimum physical needs of the community related to the basic adequacy of every community, both rich and poor. If the primary needs are not met, human survival will be disrupted. Examples of primary needs include food, drink, clothing, and shelter.

Secondary need

Secondary needs are needs that are complementary to basic needs (primary needs). Secondary needs can be met after basic needs are met. This need relates to aspects of the social environment, community traditions, culture, and psychology. The secondary needs of each person can be different. Examples of secondary needs include radio, household furniture, education, bags, motorcycles, tables, chairs, stationery, and sports equipment.

Tertiary Needs

In general, the fulfillment of tertiary needs is carried out by people with high incomes, it is usually used to show social status (prestige), and is identical with the element of luxury. Examples of tertiary needs include the need for luxury homes, jewelry, diamonds, and luxury cars.

The kinds of primary needs of every human being will be the same. Of course, everyone will need a house to live in. Eat to survive, drink to quench thirst, and clothes to keep the body from heat and cold. You will also need these items, right?

It is different with secondary and tertiary needs. Everyone has different secondary and tertiary needs. Try, just pay attention to the environment around where you live. For people with low incomes, the need for motorbikes becomes a luxury need.

However, it is different for people with high incomes. The need for a motorcycle becomes a secondary need. Sometimes secondary needs can become primary needs for some people. However, there are some people who consider secondary needs as tertiary needs. This difference in needs is due to differences in socioeconomic levels.
